Bandido's 10 Miler

I feel like I've been chewed up and spit out. My hips are sore, my big toe is sore and I'm tired and it's only 1 in the afternoon. My recovery after my morning run and race is going poorly.

It seemed like a great idea...run to the race, which was less than 4 miles away, run the race at a reasonable pace and run home.

Run to the race - check - passed a water stop and left my GU with them on my way to Granada Park.  Nice casual pace, felt good.

Run the race - check- except I didn't run it at an easy casual pace. I pushed it but still felt great. The race was put on my the local running club The Bandido's and for a low key race, had all the race "requirements".  There was a water stop at mile 2 and 8 (same water stop which we hit twice), bib numbers, mile markers, someone to stop traffic, food at the end, photographer (!) and even awards for the top 3. The first place winner gets a cactus. All for a $2 race fee.   At 9.5 miles I finally caught up with another female who had caught up to a 10 year old girl, Ruby.  We ran together, encouraged Ruby to finish strong and told her how great she was doing and Ruby took off and finished in front of us around 1 hour 20 min.  In the midnight madness race on Friday night, I was beat by a 10 year old also. These young women are amazing.

Run home - check- or maybe uncheck considering how bad I felt.  The total run was about 17.5 miles and it was a 5 mile jump in my long run.

At this point I'm thinking of ditching my tempo run tomorrow morning.  I have a schedule to follow and if I don't fit the tempo run in tomorrow, I won't get it in but it more important for me to run smart. Now the question is do I run at all tomorrow or blow the whole thing off?

Happy Running!

Oh, no! I hope you can get some rest.

I'd say listen to your body tomorrow and then decide.

Sorry that you didn't feel good! Tomorrow you'll decide about the tempo run!

Great job on the run but if you have to question if you have to run or rest and your body is sending signs that you can really read. Well...

Didn't you already run more miles that expected and also faster than expected.

I was amazed at how fast the young girls in phoenix were, actually I was mesmerized by the team warmup and how dedicated they are.

Wowzers. Definitely listen to your body. Rest is needed to rebuild. Nice run.

See how your body feels tomorrow and listen to it.

If you need the rest tomorrow (which it sounds like you might) definitely take it! If not just run EASY!

ok, i'm jealous that you had two races right around the new year! i feel like there are never local races here compared to all my blog buddies.

All that for $2? Where do you live? In the 1920s? Sweet! Congrats on your run and here's to a speedy recovery.
