What is your favorite distance to run in a race or just out on a run?
For a race, the half marathon is a good distance. A 5K, while short in distance, makes me attempt to run fast. That's hard work. The half marathon gives me time to warm up, enjoy the scenery and maybe you'll even see me put my arms straight out making like I'm an airplane. As far as my favorite distance for a normal, everyday type run that would be 4 miles. Short enough to fit into my morning before work and long enough to feel like I did something and to splurge and eat the jalapeƱo potato chips.
Happy Running!

Fun question. In college I loved the 800 meters...amazing how jut one second PR would leave me feeling excited! For a daily run just to build a base and keepy my buns looking good, I like 3-5 miles. 4 sounds great. To get a great running buzz, I like a good 9 or 10er. Race wise these days, the half marathon takes the cake!
I like 5miles for a normal run. For a long, 14-16 but it's been a long time since I was able to run that far. Maybe soon though.
I completely agree with you Christina: the half marathon is the best distance for a race. I run the first 7 km of a half marathon at a slow pace of 4.50 min./km. Then I run the second third of the race (from the 7th to 14th Km.) at 4.40 min./km. and the last 7 km. I try to run faster.
I always enjoy half marathon race especially when I run through parks, reserves, protected areas and countrysides.
Have a nice training!
Four miles = perfection. Let's agree that going forward this will be the standard.
Ha, I like this question! I'll have to do a post about this. I'll try to do it later this week if work allows.
i enjoy the 5k run as well. it simply is b/c it is short. i would probably even prefer a half marathon vs a 5 mile, b/c i feel like the 5 mile you still want to go fast BUT at least in the half you know you can not go as fast ???
Thanks for the comment. I love love what you had to say about the energy flow and what you do to get it flowing. I also love your reminder that if our head is full of so many other things then we are not really being in the NOW! So powerful to be in the present and being thankful for what we have around us at the moment. Loved your words. Thank you!
my favorite race is the half too - your weekends aren't tied up with long runs and you can push the effort in the race. not to mention, recovery doesn't take 2+ weeks!
I definitely like the 1/2 as a race. I push myself, it hurts and I'm sore but recovery is fairly easy. For an everyday run I'm all about the 4-5 mile distance. Enough to feel like I did something but doesn't take up a lot of time.
Interesting question. The longest that I've run in a race is 21km and I do enjoy that. To run on my own, 10km is a good distance - it makes me feel that I've accomplished something.
10k race. 5 is too short and hard. It just hurts too much. half or full marathon are ok, but I find it hard to settle into the right pace.
and 8.5k tempo run. This is a loop I do from my house, on trails along side two rivers, and a lake. It's more about the route than the distance, but it's my favorite.
Agreed on all counts! My favorite distance to race is a half marathon. Its long enough that you don't have to sprint and short enough that it doesn't take you out for a week afterwards. For my training runs, I enjoy anything between 4-6 miles. Once I get above an hour I need company to keep me entertained :)
I also really enjoy racing a half marathon, it’s long enough for me to feel like I really accomplished something but it doesn’t beat up my body like a full
