Elevate Running Camp - Last Day

The rain clouds finally left and the sun was out at 6am for our graduation run up to Lowell Observatory.  The hill up was challenging but unlike yesterday of charging up the hill, this one we just tried running at a strong, steady pace...it was by no means fast.  Once at the top, I headed back down for another repeat.  Sometimes when challenged with a hard run or in this case a hard hill, my mind goes to places where that are supportive and I spiral.  I had many opportunities to try and refocus and refocus again and yet again.  It was a tough run mentally.  The end of the run was fantastic as Jackie and I picked up the pace the last 400 to finish strong. I then ran back and ran in with Adrienne where she out kicked me.

I haven't talked much about the food in the cafeteria but it is surprisingly good.  HOWEVER, they do have some things that are the same every day, every meal.  A concoction of root vegetables does not look good when you see it day after day, meal after meal.  For breakfast they have 2 kinds of scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, potatoes, bacon and sausage.  I asked coach which was better for you...bacon or sausage.  He said they are both the same....fat and fat. I passed and put extra butter on my pancakes instead.  They also have a great selection of fresh fruit in the morning. For lunch and dinners there is more root vegetables, pizza and various main dishes.  There is an awesome salad bar and sandwich bar too.  Since its summer not all the food stations are open so the students have a lot of selections.

After breakfast we had a discussion about nutrition and supplements.  I was happy to hear it wasn't a bunch of NO's.  Dean did recommend a good book Eat This, Not This which goes through choices you could make, like if you had to eat fast food.

Our final discussion will be creating our own training schedule based on all the information we've learned the last couple days.

Here are some pictures from this mornings run

Looks like a lot of fun! I'd definitely take advantage of something like that if one was taking place near me.

Sounds like a good experience! I cohosted a RRT podcast last week about Dick Beardsley's running camp, and I thought of you.

” Graduation run”…I like the sound of that. Seems that it was quite a tough run, but you did great. Lovely environment looking at your pics. I think this camp certainly gives a good experience overall.
