Jalapeño Potato Chips

Yes, guilt comes with these jalapeño potato chips that I'm munching on as I type my blog.  But they are so dang good with just enough heat to create a sheen on my cheeks and my scalp starts to sweat.  Once I open a bag they are lucky to make it to day 2.

This week I made it to the track twice.  On Tuesday we did 1000's, which I'm pretty pleased with the workout. On Tuesday, we did speed strength, which is a 400 followed by exercises.  I wimped out after 5 of them.  My speed had dropped, I was tired and it was hot.  I know...excuses, excuses.  So I stood around watching Kyle run 800's and 400's and told him to step up his exercises that he was doing in-between laps. I did feel guilty the next day for wimping out.

The high humidity and heat on Saturday made for a treacherous long run but luckily the cloud cover prevented the sun from shining through. I was running a  9:45 pace when I met up with Jan and Kyle at mile 7. While I was planning on running with them for a couple miles, I was not planning on the 8:10 pace they were running.  Actually, they slowed down for me and I struggled to keep up. I figured those are goal pace miles in the middle of a long run. I was so glad when they turned back around and I was happy to drop down to my 9:45 pace again.  I wore different shoes today and literally kicked myself the whole run.  The shoe base is a little wider and I continually kicked my right ankle.   I ran 13.3 miles with run/walk breaks at the end. It was so bad that I was talking out loud to myself telling myself which tree I would start running at.  What I should have told myself is if I finish the run I could eat jalapeño chips.  That would have got my butt moving.

I took today off from running.  My knee, that I hurt when I fell two months ago, continues to let me know its presence and with the increased track workouts I am feeling it more.  Next week I'm in Orlando, Fl and won't take my running shoes. Not only is it too dang hot and humid, the time difference would kill me if I tried to get up in the mornings to run. I am planning on doing lots of core work in front of the hotel TV and the break will be good for me. 5 days off from running will be good for me. Ack! did I really say that?  Maybe I should take the shoes in case.  Maybe I'll run tomorrow and make it only 4 days of non-running.  Maybe I'll go grab the bag of Jalapeño chips and ponder if I should make it 4 or 5 days of non-running.

Happy Running!

My sister had a thing for dill pickle potato chips when we were younger. At the time, we could only find them in Wisconsin, north of Madison. So we would stock up on our summer vacations Up North. Now they sell them everywhere! Crazy what we love :)

Enjoy your week.

Wow, you're doing well with the training. Those track sessions will kill me. Take the shoes with you just in case...

A lot of the time I don't run while I'm on vacation. I just don't have the energy and can't get up early, or if I do, I am too tired to do other things. I think it's great to take a little break!

I don't know if you are tempting me or teasing me, but now I need me some jalapeno chips!

mmm chips. I have been devouring more than usual lately myself.

I'm interested in the speed/strength workout. Maybe I'm clueless, but I don't entirely get it. 400m at some set pace and then 100, 200, 400? of a drill?

Well, I should say I'm interested but it's highly doubtful I'll ever get around to actually doing it ;)

Good luck with your knee. I say leave the shoes at home so you WILL rest it up.

We all need a break here and there. Sounds like your knee is telling you that you are due. Enjoy the humidity!
