1000 Miles - I Made It

I did it!  I hit my goal of 1000 miles.  It really wasn’t until the last two months that I started focusing on it and became driven to hit that number.  I was worried though that something would come up (like a stupid injury (that makes the assumption there are smart injuries, haha) that would prevent me from hitting the 1000 miles.  The last three weeks I have been inching down on the number of miles to go and if I could get past the 20 miler, I knew I could make it.   Last night upon completion of my 800’s speed work, I was only 2.78 miles away.  I was scheduled to run Wednesday but I was so anxious to run and hit the goal that I ran this morning instead.  I even joked about not changing out of my SKINS and sleeping in them to be ready to go in the morning.

I met Coach Dean for lunch today, told him about my 1000 mile accomplishment and we talked about running (what else).  My mid-length runs haven’t been goal paced and he told me I have to work on narrowing the gap between my long run pace of 9/9:15 to 8:45’s and to spend the next month focusing on getting goal paced runs in.    Looking over my schedule I noticed that my mileage is in the high 30’s and probably should be a little higher but more importantly, I should do a longer run, about 10 miles in the middle of the week.

To celebrate my 1000 miles I want to go out for pizza tomorrow night.  I love pizza and feel that would be a great celebration food.  Too bad Baileys, my new found love, doesn't go well with pizza.  Oh well, Baileys will have to wait till another night.  Let's see, what can I find to celebrate to award myself with a glass of Baileys over ice?

Happy Running.

Wow, congratulations! :D You got the job done!

I've had that as a running goal the past two years, but injuries and then signing up for Galloway training have left me short. You and I emailed about the need for more mileage a few months ago, and the new running coach is saying the same thing, especially when I have another marathon in my sights.
