Running Question Challenge - What Food Rules do you Live By?

What Food Rules do you Live By?

On a day to day basis I avoid fast food (although McDonald's has great fries), avoid processed, frozen meals (lots of sodium), and try and eat fresh fruit and veggies and eat whole grain breads. This doesn't mean that I won't eat cookies, candy and cakes and when its a homemade item I find it really hard to turn down.

I'm focusing on a half marathon in November and to help me reach my goals for the race I have vowed
  • To avoid cookies, candies and cakes except for special occasions (like my nieces birthday this Friday night)
  • To avoid fried foods (this is probably a good one to avoid even when not focused on a race)
  • Eat something every 2-3 hours with balanced snacks. (like fruit and a couple Triscuits).
Happy Running!

8 veg-fruit
8 grain (+1 on rest days)
2 milk (+1 on running days)
3 meat (+1 on running days)

I eat only stuff we make and no packaged or prepared food. Don't go out - but if I do it's japanese or subs.

This Halloween, it will be 3 years since i gave up candy of any kind, including gum.
I try very hard no to eat food that comes from a place that you can 'drive thru'.
I try not to drink with meals so that i chew better to aid digestion.
No soda. Coffee, water, or juice only.

I drink a lot of water and hardly ever drink soda. Sometimes I eat something healthy for dessert like fruit. Have you seen the low-salt Triscuits? I like those just as much as the regular ones. Sounds like you'll be very healthy by the time your 1/2 comes around!

No starch (no breads, no pastas, no rice, no chips, no crackers,) no sugar, and little meals. I want everything alive, If the first 5 ingredients on the label were no alive then i wont eat it. I follow the work done by Bob Seebohar, RD. Triathlete, nutritionist who work with the olympic triathlon team. Read his book "Metabolic Efficiency Training: Teaching the body to burn fat." It is spot on.

every time I put constraints on what I can and cannot eat I start eating really bad. I eat what I want but in moderation! well except fast food. I try to stay away from that as much as possible.

Well I am sure you know all about my trials and tribulations in that area! Anyway, I try and avoid processed foods of any kind.....

I'm still following a low carb diet, so I'm staying away from bread, desserts, pasta, refined sugar, and starchy veggies, and am eating more protein.

I'm also drinking more water, does that count as a food rule? :)
